This time of year can be very tough on both our bodies and our minds. Here are a few tips to clear those Winter Blues and keep you in tip top shape through the darker months:

Supplements for Winter

Vitamin D is also known as the “sunshine vitamin” and it’s great for lifting your mood, boosting weight loss and getting rid of fatigue, along with supporting the growth of healthy teeth and bones.

Omega 3 fatty acids are found in fish oils, and work wonders for your eyes, brain function, fighting inflammation, and combating sadness and anxiety.

I recommend taking good vitamin D and Omega 3 supplements daily, all year round.

Comforting Teas

Nothing beats a good cup of tea, and you can make your own fruit or herbal teas at home.

If you’re feeling under the weather, a steaming hot cup of lemon and honey tea can make you feel much better. Add slices of fresh lemon, along with a teaspoon of honey, to boiling water to make it, you can even leave the lemon slices in the mug while you drink your tea.

Warm ginger tea is great for calming a sick stomach, alleviating stomach problems and reducing cramps. Add sliced or grated ginger to boiling water, and there you have it!

Mint tea is an excellent digestion aid, and is perfect to drink in the evenings after dinner. Just add some fresh mint leaves to boiling water, and your tea is ready to drink.

Relax in a hot bath

If you’ve been out in the cold all day, there’s nothing more relaxing than sinking into a nice, hot bath. Add epsom salts to your bath to relieve muscle pain after an intense workout, or add a few drops of lavender essential oil while the water is running to get you ready for a good night’s sleep.

Stay active!

Even though it can be difficult to find the motivation to exercise on a cold and dark evening, I have yet to hear a client of mine say they regret training after they’ve done it. When you work out, your body releases chemicals called endorphins, which create a positive feeling. You’ll also have all of the added benefits of exercise, including increased fitness, stronger muscles, and that “toned” look we all want.
